Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 13, 2026
The short version
- We use listening and feature data to run and improve Record Keeper.
- We may create and commercialize aggregated or de-identified insights that do not reasonably identify you.
- We do not disclose identifiable listening histories for a third party's independent use without consent, direction, legal necessity, or a business transfer.
Who we are
Record Keeper is operated by Johnny Outlaw, LLC and hosted at recordkeeper.stream. Questions? Email support@outlawapps.online.
Record Keeper shares one account system and one database with its sister site, Suffering Jukebox. Signing in to one signs you in to the other, and your playlists, hearts, plays and settings are the same on both. This policy covers Record Keeper. Suffering Jukebox publishes its own policy for its own features.
What we collect
1. Account information
When you sign in with Google, we receive and store your email address, your display name and your profile photo. If you choose a public name or picture in Settings, we store that too and show it beside what you add.
Signing in is optional. You can browse and listen without an account, but features such as playlists, personal play counts and hosting a room require one.
2. Listening and interaction data
When you use Record Keeper, we store activity tied to your session or account so the app can work:
- Play events: which songs you played, when, and for how long (a play is logged after about 10 seconds)
- Playback reactions: hearts you send from the player along with the point in the song you were at
- Playlists: names, songs, and whether each playlist is public or private
- Music you add: songs and artists you import, and whether you made them public or private
- Lyrics edits: corrections you submit and their edit history
- Problem reports: what you tell us when you report a song
Anonymous visitors also get a random device ID stored in the browser so we can count unique listeners without requiring sign-in.
3. Rooms
If you host a room, we store its name, its short web address, its settings, what it is playing, and its queue, including who added each song.
If you join a room as a guest, we set a cookie that holds your seat in that room. The cookie carries a random token, and we keep only a one-way hash of it. We also store the name you choose (if you choose one), the songs you add, and when you were last listening. The host of the room can see the names and songs of the people listening.
4. Imported listening history
If you upload a listening-history export, we process the music and listening fields you select, which may include track, artist, album, playback date and time, duration, skip status, and source-file name. We use this data to provide your private Analytics and related library features. We strip IP-address fields before saving, and do not accept a raw export file for storage.
At import, you may separately choose to contribute de-identified music listening patterns to our research and commercial-insights program. This choice is optional and is not required to import or use your private Analytics. If you opt in, we exclude raw files, account details, IP addresses, device data, podcasts, audiobooks, and other non-music activity from that program. You can withdraw the choice later; withdrawal stops future use of your source data for that program, although it may not reverse a completed aggregate that no longer reasonably identifies you.
5. Analytics
To understand how the site is used and improve it, we collect basic session data for all visitors, signed in or not, including:
- Pages visited and how long you stay on the site
- Referring link or campaign (for example a shared link, or a direct visit)
- Browser type, device type, and operating system
- Your IP address, which we store with the visit and use to derive an approximate city and country
- A random session ID stored in your browser for the visit
- Diagnostic timings when the page stalls, freezes, or hits an error: how long a step took, how much memory the page was using, and the error message. These carry no song names, no account details, and no request credentials.
The city and country are worked out from your IP address on our own servers using our hosting provider's network data, so your IP address is not sent to any third-party geolocation service.
6. Audio you upload for background play on a phone
Most songs play through public YouTube videos. Artist-approved original recordings can also stream directly, including music absent from YouTube.
If you sign in and upload an audio file for a song, we store the file in private cloud storage and keep a record of which song it belongs to, the file path and size, your account id, email and display name, when you confirmed you have the right to store and personally play it, and your total storage use against your account's allowance.
Personal uploads are private to your account and delivered only through time-limited authorized links. Artist audio may stream to other listeners only after a separate signed catalog license and manual approval. We record release metadata, ownership details, the agreement and signature audit, and the files covered by that review.
7. Copyright notices
Our copyright intake covers private and artist-approved audio that we host. A complaint about a video playing on YouTube belongs with YouTube. Copyright notices and counter-notices contain legal contact and claim information, including name, organization, email, phone, mailing address, signature, work and material descriptions, IP address, browser information, linked accounts or songs, review notes, and enforcement actions. We use and retain this information to investigate claims, contact the parties, preserve an audit record, enforce the repeat-infringer policy, and comply with legal obligations. A notice or account information may be disclosed when reasonably necessary to process the statutory notice-and-counter-notice procedure or respond to lawful process.
8. Local browser storage
We store a few small preferences on your device so the app remembers your choices:
- Light or dark theme
- Filter, display and shuffle preferences
- Lyrics font size
- Your queue, so it is still there when you come back
- Whether you prefer background play on a phone when a song has uploaded audio
YouTube
Playback uses the embedded YouTube player. When you play a song, YouTube may collect data according to Google's Privacy Policy. We do not control what YouTube collects; we embed their player.
How we use your data
We use your data to operate, secure, maintain, improve, develop, analyze, and understand Record Keeper; conduct research; and support business planning and development. Specifically:
- Powering play counts, heart totals, featured playlists and personal stats
- Saving and sharing your playlists
- Running rooms: showing the queue, crediting who added each song, and letting the host manage guests
- Storing optional background-play audio and tracking your storage allowance
- Processing copyright notices and enforcing account restrictions
- Showing admin metrics and creating aggregated or de-identified statistics and insights
- Understanding traffic and improving performance
We may use, disclose, license, publish, or commercialize aggregated or de-identified statistics and insights that do not reasonably identify you. We do not disclose identifiable listening histories to third parties for their independent use except with your consent, at your direction, as required by law, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to applicable law.
What we don't do
- We do not sell raw or identifiable listening histories.
- We do not disclose identifiable listening histories to third-party advertisers or data brokers for their independent use.
- We do not run ads on Record Keeper.
- We do not use your data to build profiles for advertising purposes.
Data storage and security
Your data is stored using Supabase, delivered through Vercel, and uploaded audio is kept in private cloud storage. Data is transmitted over HTTPS. Private files are protected by account ownership policies and time-limited links. Authorized site operators and infrastructure providers can technically process data when needed to operate, secure, support, review, or comply with legal obligations; other visitors cannot browse private uploads, private playlists, contact details, IP addresses, or internal review records.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the data we have on you
- Request correction or deletion of your account and associated data
- Withdraw an optional listening-insights contribution for future use
To request a copy of your data, deletion, or withdrawal of an optional listening-insights contribution, contact us at support@outlawapps.online. Because the account is shared with Suffering Jukebox, deleting it removes it from both sites.
Children's privacy
Record Keeper is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Where a change creates a materially new use of personal information, we will provide notice and obtain consent when required by applicable law.
